not really... So your searching turorials, and that means what to us? Sorry to be a dick but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Besides Perl and Python suck, at least for the web. Perl can't do a whole lot now of days except sit on a console and manipulate text which was its original purpose.

...And this is a really old topic, meaning that everyone else probably though what you just wrote and didn't reply.

i disagree,
you would, however, have to be stupid to use it for many of the things it's capable of as opposed to the alternatives, like C++ (application wise), or PHP (Web-programming wise)
so the point is moot.

Well I don't check dates for one, but anyways I think that Perl's original use is the only use it currently has. It can't do a whole lot besides that but most of what it does can be duplicated with better alternatives now so its almost got no purpose besides web programming which as we all know its outmatched in.

obviously you've never used perl for shell scripting then...
or, in combination with a few add ons, GUI based applications also.

also for any languages http://code.box.sk
is a good starting point.

Yes I did use it for shell applications which was its original use... Perl was the first language I learned around 6 years ago. Anyways ya you can hook a GUI up to it but keep in mind it requires an interpreter which makes distribution basically not possible and so it can only benefit yourself for small tasks and a web development which it lags behind other technologies.
Its totally a sweet program for console and shell programming but I already said that. Best text based language I have ever seen I would say.

of course to make real good use of it you've got to be good with regular expressions

There not that hard cause once you have a reference of the different operators or whatever you want to call it, it works great.
