Let me ask you this: is it legal to borrow a cd, rip it, and then give it back. No, it is not. Unless you paid for the original and are not distributing the cd or rip of it whatsoever, it is illegal.

Ripping a music CD that you bought isn't illegal if it's for personal use only...
I suggest Creative PlayCenter. I used a bunch of other programs but they were all crap (ie RealOne Player (really sucks) and others)

sorry about this unessary confusion, but i would just like to clear the air, i plan to rip songs on a cd that i purchased, to make myself a cd.
hopefully we are done with this, unless anyone else has a suggestion for a progam...
I suggest audiograbber. Always works great for me.

Yeah. It is totally legal to do it, but only as long as you own the CD. I have put a lot of my cd's into MP3s. I use CD-DA Audio Extractor.

www.musicmatch.com is a good CD --> MP3 audio ripper.
this isn't illegal, just assuming you own the CD :P

CDex is one of the best, I've also heard EAC (Exact Audio Copy) is the closest you can get to, well, an exact audio copy; although I haven't used it personally.

How come my laptop can copy tracks off protected CDs but my PC can't? Its very puzzling...
