Playing avi Files

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post in but I was just wondering how to play .avi files. If I play the file on Quicktime I can hear the sound but the video doesn't show up. If there is a program that I need or anything I'd appreciate if you helped me out. Thnx...

download DIVX, http://www.divx.com and open them in windows media player, (provided you use windows) or the player included with DIVX.

yeah divx.. i was about to say that...

sometimes you need other codecs for divx to run a certain avi file

>This< (http://www.radgametools.com/down/bink/radtools.exe) is what I used when I wanted to convert a .mov file to an .avi file because I couldn't view it in WMP. (Before I realised that you needed Quicktime to view .mov files). It works for other file types as well so you might want to just give it a spin if nothing else works 8) Go >Here< (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/mov2avi.htm) if you need some help using it (the tutorials for converting .mov to .avi but it applies for any types of video).
