can't replace old custom spray

ok here is the deal, i have made a custom spray and installed it on CS with little to no trouble (besides the fact that my spray is blurry as hell). Well I made another spray and tried to replace my old one, but the old one keeps coming up. If anyone could help me that would be great.

Rename the new one pldecal.wad and then replace your existing pldecal.wad in your HL/cs folder. The end.

did you upgrade with steam? the sprays are in a different place now.

I did replace the old file with the new, but what about upgrading with steam? I am not sure what you mean. And I apologize now because I am a noob in this subject.
