ATI doesn't put prices on their website...but from some random website that I just checked real quick....

The PC World Test Center benchmarked a preproduction board carrying the 380-MHz Radeon 9800 Pro graphics chip, 128MB of 680-MHz DDR memory, and support for DirectX 9 and OpenGL 2. The retail price for 9800 Pro boards will be about $400.

No, they haven't changed the BIOS. Some manufacturers have however, switched to a new "Black PCB" version that has had lots of reported problems. I bought one like a week ago from newegg with the red PCB and the RAM in the shape of an "L" and it has soft modded smoothly. Yummy.

They have made it so the BIOS that comes with the card doesn't allow overclocking, but that can be remedied too. ;)

AHH!! :oops: I get it. So like finding tweaks and stuff? At.. umm what was that site, www.speedguide.net ? I seem to remember them having some good tweaks for modems and internet. But I already get 600+kb/s for download speeds for some messed up reason :rolleyes: so I have no need.

Sapphire, oh yeah, it's right ! They used the Radeon 9700 PCB to build their Radeon 9500, so it was easy to soft-mod. ATI has given a warning to stop doing Radeon 9500 with 9700's PCB to Sapphire, so you can call yourself lucky.

Well.. you could say that. But overclocking is really just overclocking, not soft modding. :P I've really only heard soft modding being used with this video card business and maybe some other driver stuffs.

Exactly.

Because overclocking and tweaking can deal with anything. Whether it be adding or taking off a jumper on your MOBO, or connecting some bridges with pencil lead....to changing BIOS settings or adding/tweaking with special software (which is a softmod).

Softmod: a software/setup change
Hardmod: something physically changed
