I think that MSN is probebly easier to use than ICQ but they are both good
TRILLIAN CAN DO BOTH!!!
MSN & ICQ in one!
Where are your brains guys? Get Trillian!
Trillian :: Loads in not much more time than MSN... providing you don't have a shit computer which it sounds like most of yours are
I can only use msn at the moment. I would use trillian, but yay for me I switched from a 750 to a 250!

i think it's a lame compromise, and i'd rather use MSN/ICQ separately.

How is trillian a lame compromise?
It uses a lot less ram than ICQ alone, yet allows you to interface with AIM, Y! Messenger, IRC, ICQ AND MSN.... that's not a lame compromise, especially if you have a better use for your RAM - and you never can get enough of that - especially when doing 3D work...
Not to mention that trillian LOOKS better, can log all convos (MSN inclusive) automatically (like ICQ's history feature), and that those "away messages" are set automatically when a user is AFK. You CAN, if you so choose, set a custom away message, similar to "Auto-Response: I'm away, back after 9pm" which will be shown to both MSN and ICQ clients - which I much prefer over the standard MSN away icon with no actual reason... :)
Oh, and for users of win2k/XP, there is the transparency feature :P~~~~
Quite frankly, after ICQ died and corrupted my contact list and history, I never looked back, and i'm continually impressed by the quality of the trillian coding and stability it produces.

you can set it so it doesn't show an away message when you go AFK..

i use trillian
no gripes and its skinable
msn is alot easier to use and the only people i know that use icq are techy geeks and gaming clans
most people i know either have aim or msn and my msn has 270 contacts and then icq has 10 and the 10 ppl that use icq are also have aim or msn so it defeats the point of having icq all together

ah but you must be forgetting that both AIM and MSN have to have email addresses tied to them so that they work :)

if we wanted to use email, we would. but last time i checked, both AIM & MSN are instant messengers.

Obviously not, if the messages aren't instant.
Email or offline messages, same difference, ICQ tells a user their offline messages, MSN spams a user with the content of their hotmail inbox.

email is pulled.
instant messenges are pushed.
the latter takes less effort.

icq takes way too long to send a message, too long to load, resource hog, just... psh... MSN is better... by far...

MSN does have history... if you use trillian.
and emails aren't THAT hard.... so why not use trillian and hence use BOTH ICQ and MSN, and you have your ICQ features, standard MSN features AND history, and if you really need to offline message an MSN contact, use email.
Threeboy

MSN does have history... if you use trillian.I don't like trillian yet... the annoying "User is away" messages suck.

Unless you use MSN Plus, which creates logs. I'm not a fan of Trillian, I don't really use enough types of chat program.
I've got ICQ, and it was the first IM I used and I've still got my original number after about 3 years (39053325). The thing I dislike about ICQ is, as with others here, it's resource hungry, and I fricken hate all that spam.
As for MSN, it's fast, flexable and pretty lite, but it does carry the Microsoft feel. I live in the UK, so why tell me about the weather in the US? Heh, maybe we need a UK version ;)

I'm not a fan of Trillian, I don't really use enough types of chat program.I don't like the "MSN Plus" or "ICQ Plus" or "Kazaa lite" programs.. they're never updated as much as the ORIGINAL programs.. the last thing I need is a program with more or less junk, which results in the software being more buggy. I just like plain-flavoured ICQ ;)

kazaa lite was updated like 1 or 2 days after the original and hasnt crash once compared to 3 4 times that kazaa has

MSN is the only way to go. Absolutely only way. Not so many of my friends have ICQ so that kind of counts for a lot with me. My number is fairly old (67484829) and I still remember it after not having logged in for oh... at least a year. MSN is just plain the best because its a simple interface for simple people. This is why all my friends use MSN - its made for people who pretty much dont know anything about computers... and I like it. I also like the feel of it more compared to ICQ and Trillian... Ive never used AIM. Yahoo Messenger is deffinitely on the bottom end of my scale. Did anyone notice how MSN Plus stays running even after youve closed MSN? Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and youll see that program running. The only reason I have Plus downloaded is cuz I like the /me command. You can also do transparency with Plus if you have XP/2k. Anyways... Im so bored and felt I needed a long long post to make myself... less bored?

Go ICQ Go !! :D
Now I also use MSN, but I'm not a big fan, even tough its true that most people is moving to MSN... I guess ICQ's problem (as it has been stated before) its that suddenly got to "fat" and tried to eat the memory resources pretty bad.... but I still like it :)

but ICQ is robust, for smarter people :P

the only reason 3boy prefers full things like ICQ MSN and Kazaa is because he has a whole GB of RAM to throw at it... i'd be the same but simply put, if you're running tight on ram you're a fool to run anything but trillian and kali
Threeboy
09-18-2002, 02:39 AM
well, also cause i started using ICQ first ;)
