okay, so i'm not a designer, I'm a coder. I didn't even make these icons, Xelopheris did. So here's what I came up with. There are icons in both the quick links menu and the bottom because I just dont' know where to put them. I'm kind of leaning towards quicklinks though. Tell me what you think.

I like the quicklinks idea

well the tricky part about that is that not everyone has access to all areas, so I was thinking that the mouseover would show a red x or something over stuff you can't access, or something similiar. And i'd need some sort of tooltip type thing to tell them what each button was...

I like the idea of a red x... I hope you dont mean the *image not found one* though. Maybe have the quicklinks and then just worded links directly under both boxes ?

Bit empty, but not bad :)

now that i think about it, having the text links is kind of a problem, cause when you go to a big menu like say "edit posts" and it shows the last 20 posts, that's going to be longer than the quick links by a good bit, and then the links will hang off the edge...

Xelopheris

Perhaps have the links in say, the bottom left?

i think on bigger windows i'll just have it grow so that the main window is as wide as both are now, and the quick links will just hang off the side. Shouldn't be that big a deal to implement I don't think.

don't look too deep into my statements - a lot of people think i know what I'm talking about and you might dissapoint them.

Put the "log in" stuff higher up in the window, it looks too low

zubaz

do you mean like it's not centered right (i was eyeballing it, this isn't html) or that it should be at the top of the window?

Ok it's got drool factor right now. Zubaz maybe move it to the top of the window, or center it. Either way looks good imho. Still it's looking great. Btw what new features will be included in 3.0? I'm eagerly anticipating it's release :D

zubaz

well the beta (http://znews.zubaz.net/)'s out which has most of the features but they are...

- commenting (either "anonymous" and IP recording, or phpbb user database)
- multiple templates which you can assign to different categories
- BB code for news posts and commenting
- convertor to 3.0 standard from any other znews, newspro, coranto, and an advanced generic php news based system convertor (not for newbies)
- new skin (obviously) and new readme
- tightened up code
- batch processor (ie, remove all comments with a specific IP, or merge all posts in category NASA to science)

the center horizontally is fine, it just looks too low vertically; move it up a little bit
