brentech

For what reason is the operation taking place?

Devil
10-20-2003, 12:33 PM
torn ligament

brentech
10-20-2003, 02:02 PM
gah - that blows
did you do something to cause it. or just kinda happened naturally over time?

Shamus
10-20-2003, 02:07 PM
I don't think you naturally tear a ligament over time :P ;)

oh and good luck!

I was playing basketball... I guess I did a false move... I don't really remember.. Just that I was running in a breakaway... and... *BLOP* I heard that sound in my knee...

But I don't know if this can be linked but I had some pain at my knee before my accident... Maybe my ligament was already weak...

I know that's a bad one. My mon tore all three of hers while skiing. Her lower leg rotated 360 degrees.

Anyways, good luck and don't fall off the table.

You can't tear one, but you can strain a ligament over time. Some people overgrow themselves during growth spirts. Causing pain and setting themselves up for a tear. If it isn't something you know about, then you probably won't do the correct exercises for rehibilitation.

kkomafo

yeah good luck with that... =)

Well, she recovered from that and tried skiing again 2 years later. What happened you may ask? She did the same thing to her other knee. Only this time my dad broke his femur on the same trip. Neither of them ski anymore. :D

She had to go through physical therapy for a long time, but Gary Larson (author of "The Far Side" comics) was there too for something. I guess they became friends since they were always there at the same time. She got him to do a doodle and autograph his 10th anniversary book for me.

Hopfully your not as accident prone as she is. I'm assuming you're going to recover 100% from this too :). Did they offer to let you watch the operation? They told my ma that she could get a local anesthetic and watch on a tv. I though that was kinda messed up, but I'd still be tempted just so I could say I watched it to my friends. I'm also the wierd bastard that would want a copy of the tape and pop it in the VCR for a friend when they think I'm putting in something else  .

Again, good luck, but you won't need it. I hear that surgery is actually pretty common and, unless you mess up all your crap in your knee, you have no problem making a full recovery ;) .

You can in fact tear one over time... I think. If you ever take up running, you'll meet a lot of people with stress fractures, and torn ligaments and all those sorts of injuries because running is probably the worst sport for your joints and body, but its really good for cardio.

brentech
10-21-2003, 12:03 PM
Believe me. I know that. I ran track for many years from elementary school all the way through highschool. My whole family was runners, we've had our fair share of injuries, heh.

1 : Yes, we can watch the surgery on a TV, that's what I choose.
2 : the best recovery will be 95%... but it's absolutely sure that it won't be a 100% recovery...

2 month without walking, 6 months of physiotherapy...

When I was about 16, my buds and I stole wheelchairs from a church and terrorized the local university campus. A cop stopped us on the way to the main library (3 teens in wheelchairs - come on) and we just told him we were practicing for a church wheelchair race that was coming up. The funny thing is that, when the cop stopped his cruiser, he forgot to put it in park or pull the e-brake. He got out and his car started rolling away. It was everything we had to stop cracking up right in his face. Ah, those were fun times. ;)

I wouldn't be smiling either if I was going to get surgery.

No, in the game called basketball there is a ball, not a balloon ;)

Devil
11-04-2003, 11:27 AM
sorry, didn't know. In french we say a ball for a little spherical object, or somthing you can take with one hand (baseball ball), and a balloon for a big spherical object you can't take with one hand. (basketball balloon).

Wanted to make sure you understand my error.

kkomafo

what if someone CAN hold the basketball with one hand?

Wow..that's actually kinda interesting.
Never would of known that.

To me, a balloon is just a something one can blow up or fill with substance (i.e. water).

Devil
11-04-2003, 07:08 PM
yeah that's logical too... I guess we changed the rules for the use of the word "balloon"... Acording to the fact that a ball is something to play with, a balloon is just a decoration... Eh ?

I think that some people in France say Ball for what we, quebecers, say Balloon. Dialect.

depends on the definition of hold...

as opposed to balance :)

Liquor_Riss
11-10-2003, 02:40 PM
Its not impossible to hold it, I can hold it upside down, try doing that with balancing ;) If you know someone who plays basketball e.g. for your school team then they can probably do it.
