Ok, so I just acquired my parents' '93 honda civic LX 4-door and it desperately needs tires. I dont wanna spend a couple hundred bucks on tires that will do for the winter, then replace them as soon as I have the cash cuz thats a waste of my money and time. So I was thinkin about just goin all out right away and buyin rims as well as new tires for it.

Question time!

What size do you think would look decent? 15", 16" or 17"?

Any particular brands you like for rims/tires?

Any good Canadian stores that have a wide selection of tires/rims?

I was seriously contemplating going for just plain old normal tires, but the ones I got on right now are so dinky and ugly (14").

Also, I don't think they'd look good on a Honda Civic. Those are more appropriate for SUVs (a.k.a. "car of the devil"). Just get some good 5-point chrome wheels. I'd go with 17", but you gotta worry about cost too so...

Just make sure you don't get those fake wheels that try to look like real rims, but are basically just hubcaps. Those things are ugly to the point of pissing me off.

I'd say check online using the phonebook for your area. Then you might be able to find some web pages with pics. Some eve let you scan a pic of your car in and then place an image of different wheels over the pic (nifty).

Grrr, Im so mad. I did a little research at www.tirerack.com (wicked site for anyone interested) and it turns out the rims that I want are on closeout. So I can still get them but I'd have to buy them really soon. Hopefully in a few weeks they'll still have some stock in and I'll be able to get them. They are 17'x7' Speedline 2113's (159$ x 4) and I'll be getting Continental ContiExtremeContact tires (89$ x 4). I was also thinking about gettin a suspension kit to drop the car down an inch or so, but that can come after I get a system.

Note: All those prices are in American.

This is what I want to do with my car. The only difference in the "before" pic is that my car right now has hubcaps instead of rims.

It will be when I get the money. Right now I have that ugly green beast, but when I'm done I will have a silver, 1-3" lowered beauty with kickass rims, tint, new exhaust system, wicked sound system and perhaps some other sweet things.

My priorities are as follows:
1. Rims/Tires ($1000-$1500)
2. Stereo System ($400-$800)
3. Tint (not sure, about $400 I think)
4. Paint job (upwards of $1000)
5. Suspension kit to drop the car 1"-3" ($500-$700)

So far that's all I really want for now. All those prices are in US Dollars, even though I'm Canadian. The US prices are just easier to find. :D

A long time cuz I'm poor. Im gonna take out a loan for the rims, it'll build credit rating and let me get it sooner. Probably longer than a year though. Maybe less, maybe more. Im planning on it being an ongoing project, and just keep getting better and better things.

Hey! I drive an SUV. :D

Rims are silly. How the hell are you ever gonna offroad in rims.

Rims are going to make me not kill myself because I wont drive like a maniac. I wouldnt want to wreck my new tires/rims so I would drive soo carefully. Unlike now....

So you're gonna rice it eh? heh. Isn't taking out a loan a little extreme? Do you really want to be in debt at 16?

I have a job, it's only a small loan, and it will build my credit rating. Do I really want to build a credit rating at an early age so when I need serious money, the bank will lend it to me? Why, yes. Yes I do.

Be careful though. Dont get a bunch of credit cards. when you want to take out a loan for a house and the bank checks your credit and you have and, if they see that you have a bunch of credit in cards, they'll deny you. Credit's a tricky thing and odd things help/hurt you so educate yourself about it first :).

Yeah, that's where my mom who used to work for a bank and my aunt (accountant) are going to be able to help me.

that's cool/nice of them.

but i mean if your car's what you want to spend your money on.. ..and you're not spending it on something stupid, then go ahead. plus, on going projects give you something to do :P
