View Full Version : How'd You Get Your Nickname?
MulletMan

Well, how did you get the name you go by for computer-related (maybe even otherwise-related) things.
For me, when I got CS a few years back for Christmas (before I started spending way too much time on the computer), I had to get my brother to install CS for me. I couldn't think of a nickname when he asked, so he just typed in the first thing that came to mind: MulletMan. To answer any and all questions, no I do not have a mullet.
Note: I'm not sure if this has been a topic before, but I dont remember it so I thought I'd make one of it.

Mine's the name of a ski slope!
I've had too darned many handles. This one's just the last-name nickname thing, you know, Smith, Smitty. I wasn't feeling very creative when I set up my account here. :)
Others I go by currently are.
Lord Argent (usually for gaming, Argent being latin for Silver)
Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep or Yog Sothoth (From H.P. Lovecraft, of whom I'm a big fan)
Gandalf the White (my oldest nick and Gandalf being my 2nd middle name)
Kodiak (From the Kodiak bear, because I'm freggin' big and had reddish brown hair)
Harbinger (my old pro wrestling name from ECW)
Digital Artist (self explanatory)
Highlander (MUD name, from when I started Medievia with Vryce, from the movies and tv series)
Muad'dib (From Dune)
The list just goes on forever, most of 'em are names from books or movies or whatever that I've liked.

Why is your name Threeboy?
My full name has the suffix "III" because I am "the Third." My parents called me "Three" when I was a kid, but my grandmother called me "Threeboy." I thought it was pretty lame but original (originality is key) and it wasn't taken most of the time for online things, and I really hated those lame@ss516 type nick names.
Then I began going by "Threeboy" when I started playing online games like Jedi Knight and Quake II, then Counter-Strike, and then I started a little website...
Hey, do you still play Jedi? Outcast? I play almost every day.

i got my name cuz my friend started calling me this one name. and then i told someone else, and they changed it a little. it's really the nickname of a nickname...
...i have other nicknames too, but this is the only one i use in here so they don't really matter..
chesh

Lord Argent (usually for gaming, Argent being latin for Silver)
Haha, Argent is also French for "money."
My real nick is 'charon,' which is the name of the ferryman who guides Dante and Virgil over the river Styx in The Inferno. However, noone can figure out how to pronounce it and the question gets really annoying. 'chesh' is shortened from 'cheshire cat' taken from the Lewis Carroll book, Alice in Wonderland.

I was in a CS match some 3 years ago and I was always being the Decoy for the rest of the team...

The best way to go if you're going to have multiple characters on a single account is to look up the Index of Names/Places in the back of your handy-dandy bible. Some of my coolest D2 names come from there.

Hey, do you still play Jedi? Outcast? I play almost every day. not at all, CS/WarCraftIII for me.
I have WarcraftIII, haven't played it in a few weeks though...
And yep, I know Argent is French for Money but that's because French is a latin derivitive language. But it makes sense since Silver was probably a major money source.
It comes from the name of our coven (I'm Wiccan), which is Ordo Argent Lacus Pactum, or "Order of the Silver Lake Coven". Well, technically it's "Pact" there's no latin for Coven. :) Which comes from our favorite gathering place, Silver Lake. :)

This isn't my real alias.
My real internet alias in "Spielberg" orginated from the fact that I aspire to be a screenplay writer and/or director. I started writing when I was in Kindergarten, inspired by The Hardy Boy series. I then went on to expanding my creativity into screenplay form. By 2nd grade, I was immersed in becoming a director, writing screenplays, and other forms of writing. I still write screenplays today, and am putting a personal website up soon to put all my screenplays, short stories, novels and such. The website will be called BlackImagine, and it should be pretty fun. A lot of planning must go in, and I'm trying to find someone to build it for me, because all I know is HTML. Hint, hint to a lot of people here! Anyway, hence the name Spielberg, lived happily ever after, good-bye.
Because I rock.
You do, I just got the game, awesome stuff right there.

I really like the british band conflict and I wanted a screen name that I could tell people without having to say "the o's are zeros or the i's are 1s" or some weird number combination for once so I just put xx at the end. It's pretty easy to say, so I kept it for a few years.

Ventura comes from the Italian word "bonaventura", or its shortened form of "ventura", with the meaning of "good luck" or "good fortune". This surname was probably given to children because they were regarded as a reward to their parents. A very popular varient of this surname is Venturi, while the number of alterations and derivations recorded from Ventura is enormous.

@ chrisv: Where did you get all that information on your last name, is there a website or book?
My name is off the top of my head, I just realized that a popular GUI skinner has the same name, and is much more established, so I am probably going to end up changing it to avoid confusion... Eventually...

My name... Hmmmm, there is a story, ok here we go.
When i was 12, my brothers friend told me I looked like a beaver, so i got that name, and damnit it stuck.
My name was BeAVeR. :P
Then when the MOHAA demo was first released I used to always play with the rocket launcher, so being a rocket whore i named myself RoCKeTBeAVeR. 8)
THEEEENNNNNNNN, decided it was too long so cut it down to RoCKeT
Then I think it was about the 3rd time I was banned from here i just decided to sign up as rocket (with the period on the end coz it looked cooler)
rocket. :D

What's true? ....my story is, ask SileNceR.
before my li'l bro could talk, he would say "dumpy dooby"
dunno why. dunno what he meant by it. i liked it though, so i stoled it from him.
in cs, i used to use the name Rufio. but i stopped using it once everyone else started. i went without a name for a while, just used whatever came to mind.
now i use the name Atreyu. it's the name of the protagonist in A Neverending Story. and it's the name of a band.
FAQ
do you listen to atreyu?
yes
did you get your name from the band or from the movie/book?
the movie
what's your favorite song by atreyu?
ain't love grand
what's the name of that dragon guy from ANS (yes, i get this question a lot)?

when Dumpy Dooby first mentioned rufio, i thought, "the band!" and then after atreyu, i thought, "the band!" ..i thought it just was a string of band-ness...
i have one of Rufio's EPs but i don't listen to it that often.
whereas, i have 2 EPs and an LP by Atreyu and i listen to them all the time :)
i just saw Atreyu last month at the glass house (in socal). gonna see Against Me next month. check 'em out if that's the kind of music you listen to :) Rise Against and Fifth Hour Hero are also pretty cool.

you can only play one of those at a time - what's the point of keeping all the older models? I sold my GBC when I got my GBA SP - i also had 2 GBA SP's (got the classic NES one) and sold my old one.

Having two GBAs meant more people in my FF:CC party. I collect platinum models. Eveything Nintendo has released since inception in Platinum I have except for the GBA player.
