Also to get a forum like this, you need tons of intelligent, really cool people to visit.
Wait, is that really like this forum? :?

You can get the forum with the default skin at www.phpbb.com . The skin is a customized SubThreeboy skin, so you won't be getting it. However, phpbb has released the PSD for the default SubSilver set. You can make the complete image set from there. Then it's just a bit of CSS.

And people with strange screen names aswell, just to have a good forum.

09-18-2003, 05:05 PM
Speaking of which, I was gonna ask, are there other templates available to use here? I didn't check. I'm not very keen on the icons used in this template. It's difficult to tell what's a new post and what's not. <shrug>

I work on the phpBB open source team by the way, currently I've got a beta version running on one of my sites, when it's out yer gonna dig it.

Sounds like you're fudgin' stupid.

One has a check..the other doesn't..how damn hard is that!

Do you want a cookie? Are you aware that anyone can download the beta for use on their website?

Of course he is, he's on the phpbb team, isn't he? Which is why he uses Postnuke on his site.

LOL pwned.

phpBB and nuke aren't related by blood. There's no political ties either, it's open source and I'm free to like whatever I want. :P

The publically available beta isn't the beta I'm referring to. Maybe I should have said Alpha. <shrug>... Anyway, bleh! whatever.

As for the icons, dude, I'm using a freakin' 22" monitor in a very high resolution, I can't see a check and that's not the problem, there just isn't enough difference between 'em. Since phpbb ALLOWS YOU to use multiple templates, why not let users select one they're comfortable with? It's not like they take up a ton of space.

brentech
09-19-2003, 05:42 AM
Are you blind?

And it's not about the templates or taking up space. I think for Threeboy -- it's more about his style.

Liquor_Riss
09-19-2003, 08:24 AM
Yeah, he modded a template and he wants to show it off :P

09-19-2003, 03:34 PM
Oh, is that it? Uhhh... Well I don't mean to be rude but it's not very good. It's not much different from the default template, which I never liked much. I'd definatly say, tweak more, change more, etc.

You bitch too much. Let's see your template that's so much better.

09-19-2003, 06:34 PM
Which one would you like to see? I've done tons of them. Unfortunatly I can't just "show you" them, I'd have to set up a forum with the template to show you. And furthremore, there are others, made by other people, there are lots of the darned things and a lot of them are very nice. This is just a small deviation from SubBlue and doesn't really look that great. Like I said, I'm not trying to be nasty, if I were I'd just say "this sucks" and leave it at that. It doesn't "suck" but, it's rather plain and in my case, I have a problem with the icons used. It's a personal opinion, we're all entitled to 'em. Don't get all bent out of shape.

inigoesdr
09-19-2003, 08:17 PM
SubBlue? I thought it was subSilver. Where is this website running the new alpha btw?

09-20-2003, 12:08 AM
It's not on a website, sorry. Didn't mean to indicate it was online, it's still being worked on, keep an eye on the phpbb main web site for the next version, it should incorporate the new features.

SubBlue design created the SubSilver theme, as well as SubBlue, SubRed, etc etc, ad infinitum.

They're all rather generic looking, it makes a forum look like it was just kind of slapped up and not much thought put into it. I imagine the admin wasn't aware of all the different templates when he started to rework this one. While I favor the cleaner templates over the more overly artsy ones, the sub series kinda looks too generic. One that I've grown to like which is clean but has some nice design elements is called Helius.

Threeboy, if you'd like to check out some templates I'd be glad to toss a bunch of them on my ftp server so you can look 'em over.

But you said:

So... did you lie? Or did you intend mislead everyone? Or maybe you exaggerated a little bit.

I'm sure he is well aware of the myriad of templates out there. He's a good graphic artist, why would he use someone else's work on his own website? How bad would that look. Besides, this one is fine, there is nothing wrong with it. ;)

09-20-2003, 09:41 AM
No kidding. There's nothing wrong with the way this forum looks.

09-20-2003, 02:38 PM
The way it looks is a matter of opinion, we're all entitled to one, but to me, it looks generic.

The board IS on one of my sites, but it's intranet, you can't access it from where you are. So I'm not lying, I just wasn't clear. Sorry about that.

As far as this template is concerned, other than the logo, there isn't much changed here between this and the Subsilver template. So if he's a good graphic artist (Which I'm not saying he isn't, I haven't seen anything yet) then this is not representative of that. Sorry.

chesh
09-20-2003, 03:45 PM
This is a guess, but when someone wants to see the talents of a graphic artist, they don't look at how the artist customizes their forum. I just don't think Threeboy cares what the forum looks like nor should he worry about it.

I'm too busy doing this for money for other people.

The threeboy forums look alright, and I don't have as much time as I'd like to spend on them as I'm a full time student, and like I said, I design stuff for people for money.

well said money comes frist, oh and school is important too

09-20-2003, 07:40 PM
Not denying that... But it'd only take a few seconds to install alternate templates and make 'em available to users. Just a suggestion. I don't know why the icons confuse me here but they do. <shrug>. It's certanly got nothing to do with your talent, like I said, I've never seen your work so I can't say anything about that.

inigoesdr
09-20-2003, 11:54 PM
It's not going to happen. It's not just as easy as uploading some template, it has to be changed an customized. Besides, it seems you're the only one that has a problem with it.

chrisv
09-21-2003, 12:27 AM
It is the content that most people are interested in.

09-21-2003, 12:28 AM
You're right, it requires a few more steps.

1. Upload the template.
2. Go to the administration menu and click the install link for that template.
3. Change the main configuration (if not already done) to allow users to select their template of choice.

Total elapsed time: about 30 seconds.

If I'm the only one, no problem, I'll live with it, but there might be others who just don't say so. I dunno, I just figure a choice might be nice. Anyway, changing and customizing, as far as it goes, consists of uploading a logo image into the image directory to replace the existing one. We're not talking about creating a whole new template, just trying some existing ones out.

Ah well, nevermind.

...but I do everything custom, I don't want to download a template, it's not my style :)

Not bad dude, that one digital splash screen looked like ti wanted to have flash animation on it, is that the plan?

Dude, I don't want to give you the impression I don't like your work or that I'm being overly critical, I don't mean to come across like that. It's just this template and mostly I mean the icons, that I have a problem with. It's nothing personal, okay? Don't take it that way. I just have a hard time with the icons.

not at all, the client had a budget, i work to the budget :P

09-22-2003, 11:24 PM
Oh, hmm, it just screams "make me a flash animation". That wasn't the intention at all huh? Ah well. I used to have a web site for my web design and digital art but I have too much work as it is so it was just bogging me down with leads that didn't go anywhere and I didn't have time for it. I may just put up a show-off site at some point in the future. <Shrug>
