Are these good deals?

128mb RAM (http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/PartSpecs.asp?imodule=CT1664Z335&cat=RAM)

Geforce 4 Graphics Card (http://uk.special.reserve.co.uk/q_GG9795_sparkle_geforce_4_.html)

£65 (which is around what these two add up to) is my maximum budget.

Bad deal on the RAM.
The video card might be an OK deal, but the card isn't all that great. Look at one of the newer GeForce 4s, lower models...
or look at ATI ;)

Isn't the RAM very good or is it too expensive?

That's not a bad deal on the RAM at all but if your motherboard supports it I'd at least consider getting a bigger module like something in the 512mb range (but that will run you $100 USD or somewhere in the area of 65 GBP). Crucial ram does cost a bit more than other deals you can find but it's nigh indestructible and kicks ass.

As for the video card I'd save up a bit and at least get a GF4 Ti4200, the MX cards are basically budget and won't do you that much good. Also, you may want to look into an even newer ATI card like a 9500 or 9600 pro.

Hope this helps.

Mmm yeah, maybe I should just scrap getting the videocard until I get a more consistent job and just get 512mb RAM.

What vid card are you running now?

Liquor_Riss

Voodoo 3 3000 :o

Maybe I should get a more expensive video card instead of RAM...

how much RAM do you have currently?

Holy god. Dude, your like -- stone age.

I'd suggest hitting it up with some more RAM first. But if you're that far behind..a new system is always nice to go with..hehe.
But seriously, go with the RAM for now. I would suggest at least getting a 256 chip. You can find them really cheap in stores, at least in the U.S.
The video can wait, although I would look into it for the future.

In all honesty I reccomend a full upgrade. A new computer can be built for around $500 USD.

If I do well in my 'important exams' in June I get a beast of a machine, 'cos the 'rents say they will buy me a new PC without specifying a budget :D

That's really sad. I'm sorry.

why be sorry? it's not you that has to suffer such a punitive amount of RAM :)

09-18-2003, 04:59 PM
There's a pretty explicit rule about selling anything on these fourms. Go try ebay Cap'n. -Z

Why I was selling: Just upgraded to a big ol' new 3.6GHz machine and maxed the mutha' out. Here's what I'm running now.

P4 3.6GHz
2GB DDR
440GB HDD (3 drives)
Asylum NVidia GeForce FX5800 256mb video
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum
Sony DVD +/-RW
Sony DVD Rom
8 USB 2 & 4 Firewire
6-in-1 Card reader
Tricked out custom case, with funky UV lighting, LN2 Cooling system
(may overclock the bear).
Every damned peripheral you can think of. G'head, think of one. :)

Finally, a machine I can get stuff done with! :)

E-Mail me if yer interested in any of the parts. pyrographer@comcast.net

Sorry, did not know about the rule. I don't use EBay though. I just thought the dude could use a good deal on some stuff and I had it layin' around here. No problem. Dude, if yer interested, just email me, I'll tell ya what I got.

Don't have any £££ anymore, spent it all on cars :D

09-19-2003, 03:28 PM
Hmmm, Well, you're English, I guess you could get a few cars for the cost of some hardware. <evil grin>... Why oh WHY are you exporting those god awful ugly Mini Coopers over here anyway? We already have kids on motorized scooters, it's redundant! :)

Liquor_Riss
09-19-2003, 04:14 PM
Don't ask me, I'm not in the industry ;)

The old Minis rawk, and the new ones aren't too bad, but the only problem is, you have a front collision in one and you're dead :?

I think they're allright. They're better than those SMART cars anyway. I'm all for great gas mileage, but you can't go grocery shopping in one of those things with someone else (2 seats + no trunk)!

Liquor_Riss
09-19-2003, 04:31 PM
Yeah, SMART cars have some sort of changeable outer shell or something, so you can buy all crazy patterns and colours :D Thats my theory anyway, theres so many different-looking ones :P

09-20-2003, 02:40 PM
That's an old concept that died fast in the 70's, there was a car called the Thing, it died a fast death. :)

I hate small cars. Can't fit in 'em and they make annoying bumps in the road when I run them over. :)

Liquor_Riss
09-21-2003, 01:29 PM
Yes. Yes they do. :?

09-21-2003, 11:00 PM
Reminds me of that commerical for the Hummer where the Hummer runs over something and the one guy looks at the other and says "Rabbit", then it runs over another bump and the guy looks over and says "Civic". <Smirk>...

Too big! Too big! Too big is your sig!

Shamus
09-22-2003, 02:55 PM
It looks conspicuously like he's trying to advertise something with that sig..

Liquor_Riss
09-22-2003, 03:25 PM
Nahhhhh, I can't see how anything could be advertised by that sig....It only has his name, contact info, address and credentials ;)

09-22-2003, 11:28 PM
Hey, if someone wants me to do art for 'em, why shouldn't I make that known? And I scrapped it, it was just plain ugly once I saw it in the forums. But, it didn't have a web site, a link, any prices or anything like that. Just my credentials. A mini resume. :) Yeah Yeah, I know, it sucked, next sig will be, um, either better or nonexistant.

Mike

P.S. "Generic Template :: Designs." isn't an advertisement? Hmmm, okay.

P.S. "Generic Template :: Designs." isn't an advertisement? Hmmm, okay.
I get mentioned in a P.S.! Woo! :P Its not really an ad though, its just the name of my website. I'm sure lots of the sigs on here take you someplace where you can exchange money for services, but they're not really ads are they?

Threeboy
09-23-2003, 03:51 PM
ah, people use my forums for advertising, i should be honored instead of annoyed.

09-23-2003, 10:37 PM
Hehehe, I dunno, what's the rule about that? I don't know the rules, I never read the bloody disclaimers and rules, I just try to use common sense and normally it works. I don't have a web page for my design, like I said, too much hassle for go-nowhere leads. Do you get a lot of real business through your site three?

And just out of curioisity (I'm sure this will be the 15038385th time you've heard this) what's your name mean?

Threeboy
09-24-2003, 01:20 AM
I get alot of business from my site yeah, but I don't think others really do.

what my name means

09-24-2003, 02:11 AM
Hahaha, ok, that's cool. Actually a very neat way to pick a handle. Back when I got started, I used "Gandalf" or "Gandalf the White", my sister was a big Tolkien fan and when I was born she bugged my mom until she decided to give me that as a second middle name, when I got a little older I got into the LotR and started using the name all the time, this was back before there was any Internet or even much in the way of BBS's so there weren't like 3 billion people with that for a name already. So I can't claim much originality, my current name here isn't something I normally use, it's just, well, obviously from my last name. But that's very cool.

Reading that gave me an idea. Sorry if it's been done before but I couldn't remember.

How do you do that sig Smitty? Do you have some type of script that creates it?

09-24-2003, 10:43 PM
Yeah, a friend told me about it, go to danasoft.com and you can get your own made. I thought it was funny. I'll use it for maybe another week max, I'm always changing stuff. :)
