Well, I have another question. Is it possible to run cable television directly from the wall (1-prong cable) to one's computer (S-video)? I just got a cable jack put in my office for internet and figured I'd be able to watch TV on it too! Thanks.

Well, being as a 1-prong cable (the TV cord) doesn't fit into a many-pronged S-video jack right off the bat, no. You could either A) find a card that has a cable jack on it or B) find some type of converter.

The easiest way to do it without a cable jack on your vid card (and I think the best way to do it) is to run the cable to a VCR, then the video out into your vid card, and the sound up to your amp, or possibly soundcard if you have an input for it. Then you need to find a program that will find the video-in and use that. The program may have come with your video card, but it may not have. I dont really know much about it, but I had my comp set up like that for a while.

Hey, that's a good idea! How can you find out if the S-Video jack on your video card is in or out, though? Also, what kind of program could you use to do that with? My video card came with PowerDVD, but I doubt that would work?

Pretty much all S-Video on graphics cards will be for output. That way you can put what is on your computer onto a TV or something. Unless you have a all-in-wonder or something like that, than maybe you have an input with that.

But in all actuallity...to save yourself the pain of having to hook up a bunch of different shit, you can get a cable tuner card for like...15 bucks -- they don't cost much at all..so you'll actually have a real coaxial input on your comp.

Yeah, I found the tuner cards :). My VGA card has both in and out for S-video.

Yeah my Geforce 256 (it's ancient.. shut up!) has a S-video in and an out as well. Thats how I devised my plan to set up the vcr. The software came with my video card, and I dunno what it was called.. but I could look it up if yure really serious about settin it all up.

Don't worry about it. If I really want to watch TV on my PC, Ill get a tuner. Thanks for the help though!

Many manufacturers will make ViVo (Video In Video Out) versions of their cards, but seeing as they cost a fair chunk extra for something most people won't use, those of you who do have them probably already know...

if your' card is second hand tho be sure to check you may have gotten a better deal than you thought.

Generally TeleVisionOutput, or equivalent "TV Out"...

ViVo (which AIW Radeons are) and some higher-end cards made by most vid card manufacturers (Often Ti4200's that are more expensive than the rest happen to be ViVo ones, I know of one such card made by leadtek)
