It means.. uh... theres negative minutes to --or minutes until-- the Terminal point -- point of no return, so to speak.
Actually I just made that up, but it sounds logical, no?

Actually MulletMan you're pretty much spot on...it's the method used to count down to a rocket lifting off, the point at which you leave the pad is the point of no return.
You can abort any time before then. And when you're on a mission in space on say your 2nd day, you would say T plus 48 hours or whatever.
