If you are reading this less than an hour after I posted, go here (http://dan.generic-template.com).
If not, go to http://www.Dan-Baldry.co.uk
This is just a test for the site, to make sure ZNews is set up and working properly and to test out different colour schemes :) I know the newsbox isn't an equal distance from the top and side of the box, webpages open within the newsbox and the scrollbar looks shite, but apart from that how goes it as a base to start from?
++If you could tell me the code to get rid of the underlining under links, it would be much appreciated. (If it is actually code, if its an IE preference just slap me.)

I suggest reading up at http://www.w3schools.com
They have good help with such CSS items. But they are also great help with learning HTML and new commands.

Use tables rather than layers.

The background pixel box is in a table though, and when I try to put a table within one of the cells it won't go into the position I want it in :?

You want it in the middle of the background box?
edit // I just looked at your site in Dreamweaver. You've attacked the table background thing all wrong I'm afraid. You need to only use one file if you're gonna use a big one. Otherwise use little files, for the border only. Bah, that bg is simple, could make that just using colours in embedded tables.
edit 2// God damn I'm good...
[code:1]<table width="750" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="51758D">
<tr>
<td><table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="7EB6D9">
<tr>
<td><table width="750" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="51758D">
<tr>
<td><table width="100%" border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="C0DCEA">
<tr>
<td height="22">&nbsp;</td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>[/code:1]
That's all you need. I just made your simple background in tables in dreamweaver. You don't even need to use images now. Now you can add what you had in your layer to the centre of the table.

Or was it? I'm using the code you gave me for my little sisters website she wants me to make, I didn't use it for mine because I wanted a pixel highlight on the box :)
