Seems as though there will be a bug for Nvidia owners if they plan to play HL2.

200fps is a complete waste of video power........

it's what we like to call wank-factor.

it doesn't help with aim though, framerate does.

not when your monitor can't refresh (in most cases) higher than 85 times per second, and the "average" human eye can only see 25fps (PAL is 25fps if you don't believe this)

but for some reson most people notice lag below 60~70fps - generally i think this is controller lag, not video lag.

aim-wise though, 100fps vs 800fps there will be no difference, unless you have cyborg eyes, and extremely accurate pointing device, and a display capable of displaying 800Hz

i just like a nice 100 fps.

i like a nice 300 fps, but when im running 1600x1200 at 75hz it doesn't mean much lol, be better off to get 80fps and have 2x or 4xFSAA on - still 5 frames being drawn and not used even then

I can still aim pretty well with it.

Amen. About the only thing I go as far as making the game look better with my computer right now is turning the resolution up and turning V-sync on. ;)

I turn up anything on my video card and it makes the screen go bleep bleep then it makes computer cpu run hard then it stalls computer, and if you think you can never get a blue screen with windows 2000 or windows xp, YOU CAN, MY VIDEO CARD CAUSES THEM!
Edit: I forgot a comma.

If ya turn v-sync off you can get your fps up to 100, althouhg with mine, my monitor only goes to 85 so no point in puting it up to 100.

Just with xp there is a problem with nvidia and drivers related to fps.

There is a thing you can install, I have it, but cany remember the link to where I got it that solves this problem.

it's called "The Refresh Rate problem under Windows XP" and every goddamn mother fucking video cards have this problem.. You have to use an external program to force the refresh rate in Direct X games and OpenGL, if not, it's stuck at 60hz

Windows XP sucks sometimes...

Ok found the link.

Well two links, one for radeon users and the other for nvidia

http://www.radeon2.ru/refreshfix_eng.html

http://download.guru3d.com/detonator/

Hope these are of help to anyone who has that problem.

the newer detonators have a built in refresh rate specification/limitation so should fix the requirement of needing 3rd party tools, however i found it's a pain to use as it doesnt have any "automagical" options to set all to the highest available setting according to the monitor - nvrefreshfix does that tho...

My beautiful Geforce 256 (thats number one baby) doesn't have an option to turn vsync off.. at least not that I can find. :(

actually, vsynch is by default, off.

SileNceR

vsynch options are under directx and/or opengl options in display settings->advanced->video card name

well, you didn't say WHERE you were looking, just that YOU couldn't find it.

How the fuck was I supposed to know where you were looking/if you were going to the right place.

If you're going to make a statement like "I don't know how to find it", don't go flaming someone who tries to help you find it.

My beautiful Geforce 256 (thats number one baby) doesn't have an option to turn vsync off.. at least not that I can find. :(

Note how my post clearly states that there is no option to turn vsync off, "at least not that I can find." The phrase, "at least not that I can find," suggests that there could be an alternate way to find vsync with this card cuz it's old old old, but I am just not aware of it. Now have a seat, and shut up.

SileNceR

and it also suggests that you may not know where to look - you didn't explicitly state that you DID know where to look, did you.

MulletMan

If I was trying to suggest I didn't know where to look, don't you agree that I would put something like "I don't know where to find the option to turn vsync off... etc etc?" Cuz I certainly do. Case closed. Now we can both shut up.
