yo does anyone havet he following problem?

when i try to start steam to play 1.6

this small screen pops up saying trying to find new updates...after like a minute it says couldnt find any...
but when i press the cancel button....and try to run steam again..the same thing happens

any help?

re-install, make sure you're using legit half life.
